This presentation provides a non-technical, firsthand account of our journey as a non-profit organization with a limited budget transitioning to a Zero Trust security model. It delves into the core concepts and principles of Zero Trust while offering an inside look at how we turned the vision into reality. Key topics include tackling challenges such as budget constraints, HIPAA compliance, and the disruptions caused by COVID-19. The roadmap, spanning 2020-2026, highlights critical milestones, including achieving a 100% cloud-based infrastructure, redesigning the network, implementing network segmentation, deploying Network Access Control (NAC), and establishing Unified Access Control (UAC). I will also share valuable lessons learned, emphasize the importance of stakeholder engagement and effective communication, and highlight strategies to ensure team well-being throughout this transformative journey.
